Welcome to Voice That Moves
If you’re a leader, have you ever sat in a meeting and wondered…
“How do I make the right call when I don’t have all the facts?”
“How do I get buy-in when resources are tight and my team is stretched thin?”
“How do I inspire people who are tired or burned out?”
You’re not alone.
For more than 20 years, I’ve worked in healthcare—as a doctor, a leader, and a learner. Along the way, I worked purposefully to improve my business and communication skills. I’ve seen up close how difficult leadership can be, especially in healthcare.
Here’s what I’ve learned: leadership is hard anywhere. But in healthcare, it comes with some unique twists.
If you lead in healthcare without a clinical background…
You’re leading doctors and nurses who have spent years in intense training, often longer than you. They must keep studying to stay licensed. They’ve been trained to spot problems, defend their thinking, and explain their choices. If you can’t, or don’t explain your decisions, they won’t just resist—they might quietly disengage. And that hurts everyone.
If you’re a clinician-turned-leader…
Your peers may now see you as “management.” Turned to the dark side. You still care about patients, but your role has shifted. You’re trying to improve care on a larger scale, but some of your former peers will see your trading the stethoscope for a suit as a betrayal.
In both cases, one truth remains: if you don’t explain the “why” with clarity and compassion, people will fill the gaps with suspicion.
Why Voice That Moves?
Because words matter. I have seen how thoughtful and honest communication can transform even the most difficult conversations.
It builds trust.
It calms drama.
It motivates tired teams.
It holds people accountable with both clarity and care.
And it’s not just words. Leaders also communicate through tone, body language, and actions. All these things communicate a leader’s perspective on people and the world.
Your leadership voice is not a “soft skill.” It’s a leadership superpower.
What You’ll Find Here
Every weekend, I’ll share stories and lessons from my own personal and professional journey. Lessons about leadership, decision-making, communication, and finding meaning in messy lives and messy systems.
All of them aim to help new or aspiring leaders in healthcare, particularly physicians.
And while healthcare is my home turf, many of these ideas apply everywhere — because people are people, whether they wear scrubs, suits, or hoodies.
Let’s Begin
If any of this speaks to you, I invite you to stick around. Subscribe. Share your questions, your stories, even your messy drafts.
Together, we’ll explore how to speak more clearly, lead more humanely, and use our voices to move what matters most — hearts and minds, because that’s how you move teams and lead change.
